National Women’s Soccer League

National Women’s Soccer League:
Given that the NBA logo shows Jerry West, I wonder who this is.

“The NWSL will start play next spring and replaces the Women’s Professional Soccer league, which folded in May after three seasons. Its predecessor, Women’s United Soccer Association, lasted only three seasons, from 2001-03.
“The eight teams in the new league are: Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit, Western New York Flash and Seattle, which has yet to announce its name.”
Quoted from Boston.com.

I also wonder why there’s a need to show a footballer. Literal designs tend to make me think of clipart rather than a timeless identifer. A logo doesn’t need to say what a company (or league) does.
The National Women’s Soccer League website hasn’t yet launched, but there’s a Facebook page and Twitter profile.
