Logo Design Process for a Software Development Corporation

I recently finished up a project with a new company based in the United States called DESOFT. My part in the project was to work on a new logo to represent the brand. Here is my design process and a walk through of how the final logo is created in Adobe Illustrator.

The Design Brief

DESOFT (Design and Software) is a new company focusing on the topic of software development and interactive applications, After some initial correspondence with the customer via email we had fleshed out some thoughts on the style of the logo and what values would be presented through it. Examples of a previous design were supplied, and it was mentioned that the company slogan has to be linked with the logo (Your Key to Business Success).

Sketching & Development

I started work sketching out my ideas for the logo, my main focus for the graphic of the logo was to display the company name, something solid, clean, simple, but at the same time this logo has to be unique and memorable.

Concept to be worked

Computer Generation

As you can see in the sketch above the brand concept is going to be represented using a "key", after this general idea I started with the work over the computer using Adobe Illustrator and researched different types of keys, layouts, fonts, icons, etc.

Typeface

This is the most important thing creating the logo, because there isn't any images supporting the concept, this mean, I won't use a "key images" I will apply the "key concept" to the typeface.

Definitely the lowercase option doesn't work pretty good, the font chosen for the logo was "Impact", it is strong, clear and it match with the sketch created by hand.

Some key Shapes

To get the best results applying the "key concept" to this logo, I have researched some shapes, then I have some reference and real proportions.

Now adapting the font face to the "key shape" but the most important thing I have to keep clear the name

Color

I then experimented with color But at the end the customer chose use a strong red to give more visual impact to the brand.

Delivery and feedback

The client is happy with the final version of the logo and now the work begins on rolling the logo out through application onto the website and business stationary.

Rose Parade 2010 - poster design

The Tournament of Roses Parade, better known as the Rose Parade, is "America's New Year Celebration", a festival of flower-covered floats, marching bands, equestrians and a college football game on New Year's Day (but moved to Monday if New Year's Day falls on a Sunday), produced by the non-profit Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association. The annual parade was first held January 1, 1890 in Pasadena, California. Today, the Rose Parade is watched in person by hundreds of thousands of spectators on the parade route, and is broadcast on multiple television networks in the United States (ABC holds the official contract, but because it is a public parade, other networks are allowed to produce their own coverage).[1] It is seen by millions more on television worldwide in more than 200 international territories and countries.[2] The Rose Bowl college football game was added in 1902 to help fund the cost of staging the parade. In 2010, the tournament announced that Honda is the presenting sponsor and the parade is known as the Rose Parade presented by Honda.   Original Article WIKIPEDIA
